Step by Step of "ipmitool"

Some kind of cluster products need to be integrated with remote console interface of (DRAC/ILO/RSA) to restart/reboot "nodes" of cluster "quorum" when HA action are invoked .
So, if you want configure this kind of interface without reboot and bios settings you can use a generic protocol called IPMI to do that, present on Linux OS.

http://openipmi.sourceforge.net/

OS like RHEL/Fedora you can install :

# yum install ipmitool -y ; /etc/init.d/ipmi start ; service ipmi start

# Setting IP to be static

# ipmitool lan set 1 ipsrc static
# ipmitool lan set 1 ipaddr 172.16.0.3
# ipmitool lan set 1 netmask 255.255.255.0

# Enabling arp responses on interface isn't mandatory

# ipmitool lan set 1 arp respond on
# ipmitool lan set 1 arp generate on
# ipmitool lan set 1 arp interval 5

#  Adding an user "authentication"

# ipmitool lan set 1 user
# ipmitool lan set 1 access on
# ipmitool user set password 2

# Testing configuration

# ipmitool -H 172.16.0.4 -I lan -U <user> -P <password> chassis power status
