Changing the 'root' password on kvm qcow2 (images) OpenStack


Downloading Pre-Built Images for OpenStack
This is a collection of various OpenStack-ready images of different distributions and operating systems.


    Fedora 22 cloud images
    Fedora 20: 32-bit / 64 bit (more info)
    Fedora 19: 32-bit / 64 bit (more info) Outdated: already in archive
    CentOS 7 images
    CentOS 6 images
    Ubuntu cloud images
    RHEL 7 image (Requires RHEL subscription)
    RHEL 6 image (Requires RHEL subscription)
    Windows Server 2012 test image

Changing the 'root' password on kvm qcow2 (images) for OpenStack or Virtualization Environments.

** All examples mentioned bellow were based on distros RHEL like.

# yum -y install libguestfs libguestfs-tools*

Separate window/terminal, run:

# openssl passwd -1 "password"

# guestfish --rw -a ./rhel-guest-image-7.1-20150224.0.x86_64.qcow2
><fs> run
><fs> list-filesystems
><fs> mount /dev/sda1 /
><fs> vi /etc/shadow   (<-- here paste previously password got from openssl)
